Products for hydrocarbon refrigerants
The majority of refrigerants in use today are substances obtained by chemical synthesis, with high refrigeration performance. Unfortunately big part of them have negative environmental effects, with a high potential for atmospheric ozone destruction (ODP, Ozone Depletion Potential) or directly contribute to the greenhouse effect (have high GWP, Global Warming Potential).
Thatís why many countries have already taken steps to prevent or limit the use of synthetic type CFC and HCFC refrigerants and are deciding about HFC in favor of refrigerants with low or zero ODP and GWP.
Among the latter there are hydrocarbons such as R290 (propane), R600 (butane) and R600a (isobutane) which despite being less efficient than synthetic refrigerants are natural fluids with ODP=0 and GWP negligible.
The hydrocarbon refrigerants are classified by Article 13, paragraph 1, letter a, of the PED Directive 2014/68/EU as belonging to Group 1 and in Appendix E of EN 378-1 as belonging to A3 Group.
Because of their high degree of flammability, the use of these substances require some particular precautions in the design step. The hydrocarbons present in fact a risk of explosion if their concentration is between the lower and upper flammable limit.
The similar operating pressures and compatibility with oils and standard materials used at classical synthetic refrigeration circuits, make hydrocarbons a perfect substitute in domestic and small commercial applications.

The seal is guaranteed by helium tests for the detection of micro leakages according to Method B.6 of Appendix A (specific properties of leakage searching methods) of standard UNI EN 1779:2004.
